Classic Film Friday: Coal Miner's Daughter

With it being Mrs. Hatter's birthday, I figured why not do a review of her all time favorite movie. It is based on the true story of Loretta Lynn (Sissy Spacek) and her husband "Mooney" Lynn (Tommy Lee Jones). It tells the story of how a back woods country girl became an county music star and all the ups and downs they went through in that transition.

The movie also portrays Patsy Cline (Beverly D'Angelo) as one of Lynn's heroes growing up and catalogs her chance at meeting and becoming friends with her. The movie eventually ends with Loretta being at the top and I think that is what makes this movie so endearing to my wife. Her roots in Kentucky aren't all that far from Loretta's (Hazard is maybe 60 miles from Butcher Hollow) and it is a feel good story though many obstacles are overcome.
